What is an Automation Build?
An Automation Build is a project engagement where we design, write and technically build your core lifecycle email automation flows inside your existing email platform. Rather than handing you a strategy document and leaving implementation to your team, we deliver fully configured, tested and ready-to-launch flows — complete with copy, templates, segmentation logic and trigger rules.
This service is for companies with basic or no email automation, teams that have a strategy but need execution, and organisations ready to build their first proper lifecycle flows. If you know you need automated email journeys but lack the internal resource or expertise to build them correctly, this engagement bridges that gap.
AppLabx manages the full build cycle: we design the flow architecture, map customer journeys, define segmentation triggers, write all email copy, create templates and designs, build everything inside your ESP, run testing and QA, and manage a controlled staged rollout. You receive a complete, working set of lifecycle automations — not a slide deck.
Who it's for
Built for teams that need lifecycle automation executed — not just planned.
Companies with basic or no email automation
If your email programme relies on manual campaign sends and you have little or no automated flow infrastructure, this engagement builds the foundation from scratch.
Teams that have strategy but need execution
If you already know what flows you need but lack the internal resource to design, write and build them, we handle the full execution inside your platform.
Organisations ready to build their first proper lifecycle flows
If you are ready to move beyond batch-and-blast email and invest in automated lifecycle journeys, this engagement delivers a complete, working set of flows.
What's included
Every deliverable from architecture to rollout — managed as a single fixed-fee engagement.
- Flow architecture design
- Customer journey mapping
- Segmentation trigger definitions
- Email copywriting for all flows
- Template and design creation
- Technical build inside your ESP
- Testing and QA
- Controlled staged rollout
Flows covered
Five core lifecycle automations — each designed, written and built inside your platform.
Welcome series
A sequence of emails triggered when a new subscriber joins your list — introducing your brand, setting expectations and guiding the first interaction.
Onboarding sequences
Multi-step journeys for new customers or users — walking them through setup, activation and key feature adoption to reduce time-to-value.
Cart or trial recovery
Automated emails triggered when a user abandons a cart or lets a trial expire — recovering lost revenue and re-engaging potential customers.
Post-purchase flows
Follow-up sequences after a purchase — confirming the order, providing onboarding content, requesting reviews and driving repeat purchases.
Win-back flows
Re-engagement sequences for dormant subscribers or customers who have not purchased in a defined period — reigniting interest and preventing list decay.
How it works
Five phases from discovery to staged rollout over six to seven weeks.
-
Discovery & flow architecture
Weeks 1–2. We audit your existing email setup, review subscriber data and map the lifecycle flows your audience needs. You receive a flow architecture document outlining each automation, its triggers, entry criteria and logic.
-
Copywriting & design
Weeks 2–4. Our team writes all email copy for every flow and creates template designs aligned with your brand guidelines. Each email is written with clear purpose, tone and CTA hierarchy.
-
Technical build
Weeks 3–5. We build every flow inside your ESP — configuring triggers, segmentation rules, branching logic, delays and suppression rules. Templates are coded and uploaded to your platform.
-
Testing & QA
Weeks 5–6. Every flow is tested end-to-end: trigger validation, email rendering across devices and clients, link checking, segmentation accuracy and delivery verification.
-
Staged rollout
Weeks 6–7. Flows are activated in a controlled sequence — not all at once. We monitor early performance, catch any issues and confirm each automation is functioning as designed before handing over full ownership.
How this fits with other services
The Automation Build can stand alone or follow a strategy engagement.
Strategy & Deliverability
Start with strategy and deliverability audit to define what flows you need and fix inbox placement — then move into the Automation Build for execution.
Lifecycle System Build
A broader engagement covering full lifecycle architecture, segmentation framework and multi-channel orchestration — the Automation Build focuses specifically on email flow execution.
Email Automation Services
Ongoing automation management and optimisation — the Automation Build is the initial project that creates the flows, while this service maintains and improves them over time.
Pricing
- Five core lifecycle flows
- Flow architecture and journey mapping
- Email copywriting and design
- Technical build inside your ESP
- Testing, QA and staged rollout
Note: This is a one-time project fee. Additional flows beyond the standard five can be scoped and priced separately. The Automation Build is designed to follow a Strategy & Deliverability engagement but can also start as a standalone project.
Frequently asked questions
What automation flows are included?
The Automation Build covers core lifecycle flows: welcome series, onboarding sequences, cart or trial recovery, post-purchase, and win-back flows. Each flow is designed, written and built inside your existing email platform.
How many flows does the engagement cover?
The standard engagement covers five core lifecycle flows — welcome, onboarding, recovery, post-purchase and win-back. If you need additional flows beyond this set, we can scope them as part of the engagement or as a follow-on project.
Do you build inside our existing platform?
Yes. All flows are designed, written and technically built inside your existing ESP. We work with Klaviyo, Braze, Iterable, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot and other major platforms.
What if we need more flows than the standard set?
If your lifecycle architecture requires additional flows beyond the five core flows, we can scope and price them separately. Many clients add flows like re-engagement, referral, milestone or browse-abandon sequences after the initial build.
How long does the build take?
The full engagement runs over approximately six to seven weeks, from discovery and flow architecture through to staged rollout. Timelines can vary depending on the complexity of your platform setup and the number of flows involved.
Can this start after Strategy & Deliverability?
Yes. The Automation Build is designed to follow directly after a Strategy & Deliverability engagement. However, it can also start as a standalone project if you already have a clear strategy or lifecycle architecture in place.
